FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY BOOKSTORE
We have a wonderful bookstore in the library! The Friends of the Library have a great selection of used books for sale. Stop by and check it out!

MILITARY WEB CAM
We now have a computer equipped with a web cam that is available for you to visually and verbally communicate with your military family and friends. This computer is also available to the public for video conferencing, but military families will have first priority. The computer is located in the second floor meeting room.
RECYCLING
Bring your cell phones (no cords), ink jet cartridges and compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL's) to the library for recycling!
WIRELESS HOTSPOT
Bring in your laptop computer and connect anytime. No passwords, registration or cost involved.
EMAIL PRINTER SERVICE
Don't have a printer with you? Send your documents to foleylibraryprint@gmail.com, then stop by the library to print them! No need to sign in to the computer lab or bring your computer with you. Printed documents are .15 cents per page for black and white copies; .50 cents per page for color. We will keep a document in our email archive for one week only. No confirmation will be sent. You are welcome to call 251-943-7665 to check on your email. We will not print prior to your arrival at the library. Do not use this email as a contact point as they will not be read regularly.

This service offers free online homework help from tutors in Math, Science, Social Studies and English, for grades 4 - 12 and College Intro. These tutors are available everyday from 3 p.m. until Midnight.

In 1910, famed novelist Leo Tolstoy (Christopher Plummer) and his wife Sofya (Helen Mirren) vehemently disagree over the rights to Tolstoy's literary legacy. Sofya believes her husband should bequeath them to her upon his death, while Tolstoy's chief disciple, Chertkov (Paul Giamatti), has nearly convinced the writer to sign the rights over to the Russian people. To this end, Chertkov inserts a spy into Tolstoy's household, who promptly falls for one of the novelist's daughters.

Storytime is held every Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. and
repeated every Wednesday at 10:00 A.M.
We have approximately 30-45 minutes of great fun for pre-school age children, their parents, grandparents and caregivers!
We read a book together, have a short time for crafts or special events (such as Halloween, Fire Prevention Week, Christmas, Easter, etc...) and learn to love reading!

FIND HIDDEN JOB LEADS ONLINE & AT THE LIBRARY
Wednesday, September 29, 2010 from 2:00-3:00 PM.
The Foley Public Library will host a free web based seminar entitled “Find Hidden Job Leads Online & at the Library” on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 from 2:00-3:00 PM.
There's a wealth of free and low-cost information available to job seekers that can be used to improve the efficiency of a search and potentially secure a new job faster. During this webinar, participants will learn what research and job information tools are available both online and off and how to incorporate these tools into their search strategy. The webinar will be held in the Meeting Room of the library and no computer experience is necessary.
Barbara Safani, career expert, author and owner of Career Solvers will lead this online experience. Everyone is invited. Pre-registration is not necessary.
CAROLYN HAINES IS COMING TO FOLEY!
On Tuesday, September 28th, at 6:00 PM, the members of the Friends of the Library will gather at the Foley Civic Center for their Annual Meeting. This year, bestselling author Carolyn Haines will be our guest speaker. A prolific writer, you may know Haines best as the author of ten books in the popular Sarah Booth Delaney Bones mystery series. Her latest, Bone Appétit, was released in July by Minotaur Books. Originally from Lucedale, Mississippi, she is now a resident of Semmes, Alabama and teaches at the University of South Alabama. Haines received the 2009 Richard Wright Award for Literary Excellence and was named the 2010 recipient of the Harper Lee Award for Alabama’s Distinguished Writer of the Year. If you are looking for all of her work, you will find some of her books written under the pseudonyms of Caroline Burnes or Lizzie Hart.
Everyone is welcome, but you must be or become a member of the Friends of the Foley Library at the door. (10.00 individual; 15.00 family)

Introduction to the Alabama Virtual Library
On Tuesday, September 14, 2010, from 6:00-7:00 PM, Steve Horn will present a one hour class on how to use the Alabama Virtual Library (AVL). The Alabama Virtual Library provides all students, teachers, and citizens of the State of Alabama with online access to essential library and information resources. It is primarily a group of online databases that have magazine, journal, and newspaper articles for research. Through the AVL, citizens of Alabama have access to everything from auto repair manuals to zoological research. Small businesses, students of all ages and the incurably curious can spend hours reading the latest research, viewing videos or playing educational games online. It is an essential resource for school!
